Usakti’s 2025 Berkain Berkebaya Festival: Preserving Culture Through Contemporary Fashion

The Office of International Affairs, Cooperation, and Culture (KUIKK) of Universitas Trisakti once again held the Festival Berkain Berkebaya on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, carrying the theme “Staying Relevant and Contemporary Through Cultural Attire.” The event aimed to promote and preserve traditional Indonesian textiles and kebaya as a symbol of Indonesian women’s cultural identity.

The festival featured two guest speakers: Wisni WDrupadi, a well-known influencer recognized for her practical kain-styling tutorials tailored for dynamic lifestyles, and Chaulan Fatrysa Shintamy, a kebaya and traditional hair bun (sanggul) preservationist. Wisni conducted a live tutorial, while Ulan elaborated on various kebaya styles such as Kutu Baru, Kartini, Encim, Janggan, Labuh, and Cowak.

According to the speakers, an authentic kebaya typically features long sleeves, a front opening, and a form-fitting cut. Any top that does not meet these criteria is classified as a blouse or a modern kebaya variation.

In addition to the workshop, the event also held a short video competition titled “Trisakti Berwastra Berkebaya Berbudaya.” The Faculty of Economics and Business claimed first place, followed by FTKE and FTI. Winners received cash prizes and e-certificates.
