Universities Drive Jakarta’s Future Through Collaborative Research

Jakarta, June 14, 2025 — Amid budgetary and infrastructural constraints, universities continue to play a strategic role in shaping a sustainable future for Jakarta. This message was emphasized during the international seminar titled “Universities as Catalysts: Forging Jakarta’s Global Identity through Research Hubs”, held at Taman Ismail Marzuki as part of the Jakarta Future 2025 series.

Three keynote speakers shared their insights:

  • Prof. Dr. Wegig Murwonugroho, Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design, Universitas Trisakti
  • Ahmad Gamal, S.Ars., M.Si., MUP., Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Human Resources and Assets, University of Indonesia
  • Prof. Yuhki Tajima, President, Georgetown School of Foreign Service (SFS) Asia Pacific

The speakers highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary research, international collaboration, and the proactive role of universities in addressing the city’s real-world challenges. The seminar called for the development of a collaborative research ecosystem as the foundation for Jakarta to evolve into an inclusive, intelligent, and sustainable global city.
