Jakarta, June 24, 2025 — Universitas Trisakti, through its Center of Excellence, the Trisakti Waste to Value Center, actively participated in the KSBB (Large-Scale Social Collaboration) Waste Management Cluster Forum organized by the Environmental Agency of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. The event, themed “Collaborative Waste Management Pilot Project: A Step Toward a Clean and Sustainable Global City,” was held at Candi Bentar Hall, Putri Duyung Cottage Ancol, from 08:30 to 13:00 WIB.
This forum is part of DKI Jakarta’s environmental development strategy based on four main pillars: Clean, Comfortable, Beautiful, and Prosperous (Bersih, Nyaman, Indah, dan Sejahtera or BENYAMIN S). Key agenda items included opening remarks by the Head of the Environmental Agency, collaborative partner sharing sessions, and a series of Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) covering Central, North, West, East, and South Jakarta, as well as the Thousand Islands Regency.
Universitas Trisakti was represented by Dr. Ir. Sally Cahyati, MT.IPM, Head of the Trisakti Waste to Value Center. The university’s participation highlights its commitment to strengthening cross-sector collaboration in integrated and sustainable waste management—aligned with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s goal of improving Jakarta’s global city ranking from 74th in 2024 to 50th by 2030.
During the sharing session, attendees gained insights from the success story of the collaborative TPS 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Site) project in Jalan Joe, Jagakarsa, involving multiple stakeholders such as the Environmental Agency, Nestlé, Waste4Change, and WWF.
Universitas Trisakti is also part of a pilot waste management project at the Tanjung Pura Waste Bank, RW 05, Pegadungan – Kalideres, West Jakarta, in collaboration with Bina Nusantara University and several private sector partners. The site has implemented organic and inorganic waste shredding machines provided by the West Jakarta Environmental Sub-Agency. A remaining 3,300 m² of available land holds significant potential to be developed into a full-scale waste management and community empowerment center.
The university also opens opportunities for research and community engagement, including spatial planning, waste management mentoring, development of business models for TPS 3R, plastic waste processing into marketable products, and the exploration of innovations such as maggot utilization and low-emission incinerators.
As a follow-up, a site visit to the pilot project is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025, with relevant stakeholders. The KSBB Forum also plans to host a second round of FGDs, involving major universities and key institutions, to explore a more integrated approach to waste management across the DKI Jakarta region.
