Universitas Trisakti Students Successfully Complete the 3rd International Batch of the Independent Entrepreneurship-Applied Technology Program (KUM-ITT) in Kitakyushu and Ainoshima Island, Japan – Academic Year 2024/2025

Universitas Trisakti students have successfully carried out the 3rd International Batch of the Independent Entrepreneurship–Applied Technology Program (Kuliah Usaha Mandiri–Ilmu Teknologi Terapan, or KUM-ITT), held in Kitakyushu and Ainoshima Island, Japan, for the 2024/2025 academic year.

As part of Universitas Trisakti’s efforts toward achieving global recognition through the World University Rankings, this KUM-ITT program included a field study conducted in Kitakyushu, Japan, from May 19 to 29, 2025.

The program began with a preparatory session for the participating students, delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Astri Rinanti, M.T., IPM, ASEAN Eng. (Director of LPPM, Trisakti University); Dr. Ir. Mohammad Ischak, M.T. (Deputy Director of LPPM); Ir. Wawan Kurniawan, ST, M.T., IPM (Head of the KUM-ITT Center, LPPM); Prof. Kodama and Indriyani Rachman, Ph.D. (University of Kitakyushu); and Miftahul Huda (Doctoral Student at the University of Kitakyushu). The students also took part in their Mid-Semester Examinations (UTS) during the program.

A total of seven students from three faculties participated in this year’s international KUM-ITT program:

  • Faculty of Law (4 students): Hani Shopia, Egi Nugraha, and Rizky Fadhl
  • Faculty of Economics and Business (2 students): Erika Putri Wulandari
  • Faculty of Industrial Technology (3 students): Dio Maulana Nurjayadi, Faddillah Robby Awali, and Ismail Guliling

The Faculty Field Supervisors (Dosen Pendamping Lapangan) for this international program were Ir. Wawan Kurniawan, ST, M.T., IPM; Dr. Cahaya Rosyidan; and Dr. Ir. Winnie Septiani, ST, M.Si., IPM.

The KUM-ITT activities were divided into two categories: the core KUM-ITT projects and educational site visits.
The core activities included:

  • At Kyushu University International, students introduced a variety of traditional Indonesian foods.
  • At University of Kitakyushu, they showcased different traditional batik designs from across the Indonesian archipelago.
  • At the Fujitama Shimin Center, they presented the diverse uses of bamboo, including making traditional hand fans (hihid).
  • On Ainoshima Island, they participated in marine cleaning activities.
  • At the Kitakyushu Islamic Cultural Center (Masjid Kitakyushu), students conducted a food hygiene awareness session and monitored the progress of concrete flooring work initiated by previous KUM-ITT batches.

The educational visits included trips to:

  • Kitakyushu Environmental Museum
  • Yukata Castle for Japanese cultural introduction
  • Murasaki River Museum
  • Eco-Town Kitakyushu Center Workshop
  • Space Labo (Space Science Museum)
  • Mojiko Retro Port Harbor field visit
  • SDGs Training
  • TOTO Museum
  • FORSNET at University of Kitakyushu
  • Hiagari Water Plaza

At the conclusion of the program, each participant received an international KUM-ITT certificate from the University of Kitakyushu, along with nine additional certificates from institutions such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Students were also required to produce various outputs, including activity posters, presentation materials, a documentation video, and copyright-protected works (HKI).

The University of Kitakyushu and all hosting institutions expressed their appreciation for the students’ active and positive contributions to the success of the International KUM-ITT Program.

It is hoped that this international KUM-ITT experience in Japan provides valuable insights and motivation for Trisakti University students to play an active role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia and in positioning Universitas Trisakti as an internationally recognized institution.
