Universitas Trisakti Holds “English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI)” Workshop: Preparing Lecturers to Face Global Challenges

Jakarta, 10 October 2025 — The Office of International Affairs, Cooperation, and Culture (KUIKK) of Universitas Trisakti once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education by organizing a workshop titled “Fostering Global Readiness Through English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI)” on Friday, 10 October 2025. The event served as a platform to strengthen the capacity of lecturers and academic staff in responding to the dynamics of global education through the mastery and use of English as a medium of instruction.

The workshop was officially opened by Ir. Agus Guntoro, M.Si., Ph.D., Director of the Office of International Affairs, Cooperation, and Culture, Universitas Trisakti, who emphasized the importance of institutional and human resource readiness in embracing the era of global education. “Language is no longer merely a tool for communication—it is a bridge toward international collaboration and broader knowledge exchange,” he stated.

Also in attendance were Dra. Agustin R. Lakawa, MS., Ph.D., Head of the Cultural Affairs Center, KUIKK, and Prof. Dr. drg. Tri Erri Astoeti, M.Kes., FISDPH., FISPD, Vice Rector IV of Universitas Trisakti, who in her remarks highlighted that strengthening EMI competencies is part of Trisakti’s strategic efforts to enhance global competitiveness.

The workshop featured two international speakers from The University of Adelaide, Australia, Kathy Watson and Suria McGee, who shared valuable insights on best practices for teaching using English as a Medium of Instruction. They discussed challenges, pedagogical strategies, and approaches to fostering inclusive and effective classroom interactions within a global context.

The session continued with an inspiring sharing session by Dr. Luki Adiati Pratomo, M.M., who offered practical perspectives drawn from her experience implementing EMI in the Indonesian higher education landscape. Participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the dynamic discussions and interactive exchanges.

Through this workshop, Universitas Trisakti aims to empower its lecturers to strengthen their academic capacities and open broader opportunities for international collaboration, student exchanges, and the development of globally standardized curricula.
