The 12 May 1998 Tragedy Museum Selected to Participate at the 2023 Indonesian Museum Day Joint Exhibition

Every year at October 12th, celebrated as Indonesian Museum Day (Harmusindo). The DPR RI, along with the Indonesian Museum Association held several series of activities to enliven this year’s commemoration, such as seminars, workshops, museum meetings throughout Indonesia, and joint exhibitions. The theme for the 2023 Harmusindo commemoration is “Collaboration and Synergy”

Of all the museums in Indonesia, the 12 May 1998 Tragedy Museum at Universitas Trisakti was one of those chosen to participate in enlivening the joint exhibition held on 12-13 October 2023 in the Lobby of the Indonesian DPR Nusantara Building.

The series of Harmusindo commemorative activities was officially opened by the Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI, Coordinator for Development Industry, Rachmat Gobel. In his speech he continued to support the Museums Draft Bill which has now been included in the 2024 National Legislation Program. He also hopes that museums will continue to innovate with technology to make them more relevant to the younger generation.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Indonesian Museum Association and Member of the DPR, Putu Supadma Rudana, in his opening speech said that with the theme ‘Collaboration and Synergy’, it is hoped that this spirit of collaboration and synergy will encourage museums in Indonesia to be sustainable and prosperous through cultural values.

Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Rachmat Gobel, Member of the House of Representatives Putu Supadma Rudana, together with the United States Embassy’s Cultural Attaché Emily Yasmin Norris also took the time to look the Usakti 12 May 1998 Tragedy Museum booth.

During this activity, visitors enthusiastically visited the Usakti 12 May 1998 Tragedy Museum booth. Many visitors remember the period of 1998. The presence of the Usakti 12 May 1998 Tragedy Museum also attracts the attention of the younger generation. It is hoped that the 12 May 1998 Museum can continue to provide education about one of the events in Indonesia’s modern history. Through programs like this, it is hoped that museums can continue to help the public to maintain their memories and refuse to forget events that have occurred in the past.
