Public Lecture for Trisakti Law Students with Director of the Dipolsatwa Korsabhara Baharkam Polri, Police Brigadier General Tory Kristianto, S.I.K.

Depok, June 5, 2025 — The Faculty of Law at Universitas Trisakti, through its Forestry Law Department, held a public lecture titled “The Role of Communities and the Animal Police in Achieving a Balance of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems.” The event took place at the Transfer Knowledge Auditorium of the Animal Center, Directorate of Dipolsatwa Korsabhara Baharkam Polri, Kelapadua, Depok.

The keynote speaker was Police Brigadier General Tory Kristianto, S.I.K., Director of the Animal Police Division at Korsabhara Baharkam Polri. The event was attended by Trisakti Law students, lecturers, forestry law practitioners, and wildlife police observers.

In his address, Brig. Gen. Tory Kristianto emphasized the importance of synergy between communities, academia, and law enforcement in conserving Indonesia’s biological natural resources.

“Indonesia possesses extraordinary biodiversity, but it also faces serious threats such as poaching and habitat destruction. The Animal Police are not only enforcers of the law but also drivers of public education and awareness on the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitats,” stated Brig. Gen. Tory Kristianto.

He elaborated on the strategic roles played by the Animal Police in addressing conservation issues, including combating illegal wildlife trade, rescuing abandoned or endangered animals, and conducting community-based educational initiatives in various regions.

The lecture was introduced by Dr. Intan Nevia Cahyana, S.H., M.H., a lecturer for the Forestry Law course. She highlighted the urgency of this event in providing students with firsthand insight into the dynamics of legal enforcement in forestry and biodiversity conservation.

“Through this lecture, students do not merely learn theoretical knowledge in the classroom, but also witness how laws are implemented on the ground. This is part of a contextual curriculum aimed at producing law graduates who are environmentally conscious and capable of applying solution-oriented thinking in practice,” said Dr. Intan.

Adding further depth to the program, Police Commissioner Gede Pasek, S.I.K., Deputy Director of Community Development at the Metro Jaya Regional Police, presented the main duties and functions of Bhabinkamtibmas (village security officers) in supporting community-based environmental security programs, including the flagship Police Community Program initiated by Binmas PMJ.

Monica Fany Megawati, Chairperson of the Animal Police Observer Group of Korsabhara Baharkam Polri, also served as facilitator of the lecture, sharing key perspectives on the role of youth in conservation efforts.

“The involvement of law students in this activity is highly strategic. They are not only future law enforcers but also potential agents of change. By understanding the role of the Animal Police directly, we hope to foster a stronger spirit of environmental advocacy that can create meaningful impact in society,” said Monica.

This event is a concrete manifestation of Universitas Trisakti’s commitment to developing a legal education that is adaptive and contextual—capable of addressing contemporary challenges, especially in ensuring environmental sustainability amid the complexities of national and global law.
