Bandung, May 2, 2025 — In commemoration of National Education Day and in remembrance of the struggle of the Reform Heroes, Universitas Trisakti held a pilgrimage to the grave of the late Hafidin Royan—one of four Universitas Trisakti students who lost their lives in the May 12, 1998 Tragedy. The visit took place on Friday, May 2, 2025, in Bandung.

The pilgrimage was attended by the Rector of Universitas Trisakti, faculty deans, representatives of the student government, various student organizations, and members of the Trisakti Alumni Association. Together, they offered prayers, laid flowers, and paid tribute to the students who sacrificed their lives in the fight for democracy in Indonesia.

In his remarks, Rector of Universitas Trisakti Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA emphasized that this pilgrimage is a tangible expression of respect and gratitude for the students’ pivotal role in the reform movement.

“The spirit of reform upheld by these student heroes must never fade. We are here to remember, to reflect, and to continue their struggle through education and service,” he stated.

This activity also served as a meaningful reflection on National Education Day, observed annually on May 2 in honor of the birth of Ki Hajar Dewantara. The day is a reminder of the vital role of education as a tool for struggle and social transformation. In the context of the Trisakti student movement, education goes beyond academics—it encompasses critical awareness, moral courage, and a deep responsibility for the nation’s future.

The pilgrimage to Hafidin Royan’s grave is part of a series of commemorative events honoring the May 12, 1998 Tragedy, held annually by Universitas Trisakti. These events are not only about remembering the past, but also about instilling the values of leadership and resistance in the younger generation.
