KUM-ITT Desa: Universitas Trisakti Students Advance Village SDGs in Munjul Village, Ciambar Subdistrict, Sukabumi Regency through 11 Work Programs

Students from Universitas Trisakti have implemented the KUM-ITT (Kuliah Usaha Mandiri – Ilmu Teknologi Terapan) program in Munjul Village, Ciambar Subdistrict, Sukabumi Regency, as part of a community service initiative based on the application of appropriate and practical technology.

Held from July 3 to 12, 2025, the program carried the theme “Optimizing and Empowering Sustainable Local Potential through Appropriate Technology Innovations for Impactful Rural Communities.” Participating students came from various departments within Universitas Trisakti and collaborated to present tangible solutions to problems faced by rural communities.

The Field Supervisor for the KUM-ITT Desa group in Munjul Village, Faisal Adinegoro, S.T., M.Eng., expressed his hopes that the program would benefit the community.

“We have designed several programs based on the data we gathered during our survey. We hope that what we implement here will have a real impact on the people of Munjul Village, and that this activity becomes a meaningful learning and empathy-building experience for our students,” said Faisal.

Throughout the program, students carried out a series of initiatives, including:

  • Prototype training for a simple “enye” dryer – a design made from bamboo racks covered with plastic to accelerate the drying process and protect the product during rainy weather.
  • Collaborative infrastructure improvements, including the construction of a turnaround area, the installation of solar-powered public street lighting, and the renovation of a local prayer room (musholla). The lighting installations were strategically placed in areas not yet connected to electricity, along a main road linking Munjul Village with Ciambar Subdistrict.
  • Educational session on “Koperasi Merah Putih”, a newly introduced government-supported village cooperative recently established in Munjul.
  • Online sales training, encompassing product packaging and digital marketing strategies. The training targeted local MSME owners, most of whom produce traditional snacks such as enye or kicimpring.
  • Oral health awareness program, followed by toothbrushing technique training for children in the village.
  • Waste management education, which included training on creating biopore holes for organic waste and kite-making workshops using recycled materials.

The Acting Village Head of Munjul, Mr. D. Riswanto, conveyed his appreciation for the students’ contributions.

“We extend our sincere thanks to the Universitas Trisakti students for their support. We hope their programs bring meaningful benefits to the people of Munjul Village and become a blessing for all involved,” he said.

According to the students participating in the KUM-ITT Desa program in Munjul, the experience was more than just community service—it was a valuable learning opportunity.

“We learned directly from the community and tried to apply the knowledge we gained in university to solve real-world challenges,” said Maftuh Amrullah, one of the student team members.

The KUM-ITT Desa program by Universitas Trisakti is expected to serve as a catalyst for future innovation and collaboration between the university and villages across Ciambar Subdistrict, particularly in promoting economic self-reliance and environmental sustainability through applied technology solutions.
