Cultural Arts Exploration: Young Generation Creating at Universitas Trisakti

Jakarta, October 16, 2024 – Universitas Trisakti once again presents one of its cultural initiatives through an event titled Cultural Arts Exploration: Young Generation Creating, organized by the Office of International Affairs, Cooperation, and Culture (KUIKK). This event aims to foster young people’s interest in Indonesian arts and culture, while also strengthening their appreciation for the nation’s cultural heritage. The program highlights a special theme on batik, a recognized Indonesian cultural heritage by UNESCO.

The event was officially opened by Universitas Trisakti’s Vice-Rector IV, Prof. Dr. drg. Tri Erri Astoeti, M.Kes., FISDPH., FISPD, at Building E, ground floor, Campus A of Universitas Trisakti on Monday, October 16, 2024. In her speech, Prof. Tri Erri emphasized the importance of understanding cultural arts for students as part of the next generation.

“This activity is expected to serve as a platform for students to explore, recognize, and preserve Indonesian arts and culture,” said Prof. Erri.

The main speaker at the event, Dra. Atridia Wilastrina, M.Ds., a lecturer from the Faculty of Art and Design Universitas Trisakti, delivered an in-depth presentation on batik as an intangible cultural heritage. She explained the history of batik, the production process, and various batik patterns from different regions of Indonesia. Through her presentation, participants were encouraged to appreciate batik as a piece of art rich in cultural value.

Following the seminar, the event continued with a hands-on batik-making session using the cold wax batik technique, guided by the KUIKK team. This technique is known as one of the traditional methods in batik production that uses wax as the main material. Participants, including lecturers, students, and staff from Universitas Trisakti, eagerly tried their hand at creating their own batik patterns, experiencing the challenges and beauty of the batik-making process firsthand.

Ir. Agus Guntoro, M.Si., Ph.D., the Director of KUIKK Universitas Trisakti, was also present at the event and expressed his hope that the younger generation will continue to explore Indonesian arts and culture.

“Through activities like this, we hope students can gain a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture and contribute to its preservation,” he said.

The Cultural Arts Exploration: Young Generation Creating event is expected to be the first step for Universitas Trisakti in supporting students to explore cultural potential and contribute to advancing Indonesian culture in the future.
