The Office of International Affairs, Cooperation, and Culture (KUIKK) of Universitas Trisakti organized the Batik and Kebaya Festival with the theme “Weaving Heritage, Crafting the Future: Perpetuating and Preserving the Diversity of Nusantara Culture” on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Multipurpose Hall of Building M, Campus A, Universitas Trisakti.
The event aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving and promoting Indonesian cultural diversity. On this occasion, the relaunching of the ‘Universitas Trisakti Batik Lovers Community’ was also initiated. Therefore, every Tuesday at the beginning of the month, Trisakti academic community members are encouraged to wear traditional textile and clothing creations, such as kebaya and batik, as a form of support for cultural heritage preservation efforts.
The Batik and Kebaya Festival was opened by the Rector of Universitas Trisakti, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA stated that through this festival, Universitas Trisakti demonstrates its commitment to supporting efforts to preserve the cultural richness of Nusantara.
“Through this festival, we hope to inspire a spirit of togetherness in preserving the cultural diversity of Indonesia. Universitas Trisakti is committed to continuously supporting efforts to preserve and enhance appreciation for the cultural richness of Nusantara,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA.
The festival was also attended by Vice Rector I, Prof. Ir. Asri Nugrahanti, M.S., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN.Eng., Vice Rector IV, Prof. Dr. drg. Tri Erri Astoeti, M.Kes., FISDPH., FISPD., Director of KUIKK, Ir. Agus Guntoro, M.Si., Ph.D., and deans. In addition, the event featured several speakers:
After the talk show on Nusantara Textiles and a batik workshop, the participants also held a fashion show competition, which was participated by eight teams and won by:
1st Place: Faculty of Earth and Energy Technology (FTKE)
2nd Place: Faculty of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Technology (FALTL)
3rd Place: Faculty of Dentistry (FKG)
Favorite Team: Faculty of Medicine (FK) (team 1)
The Batik and Kebaya Festival is expected to serve as a momentum to strengthen intercultural bonds and raise awareness of the Indonesian cultural richness that needs to be preserved for future generations.
