Silmy Karim has over 20 years of experience working in various affiliated and multinational companies, including as President Commissioner of PT Krakatau Posco, President Commissioner of PT Krakatau Nippon Steel Synergy, Commissioner of PT GE Power Solution Indonesia, President Commissioner of MAN Diesel & Turbo Indonesia, Advisor at PT Freeport Indonesia, Independent Commissioner of Carrefour Indonesia, CEO of Krakatau Steel (Persero), and Director General of Immigration of the Republic of Indonesia.

He has received numerous awards, such as the Bintang Dharma Defense Medal from the Ministry of Defense in 2014, The Best CEO in Change Leadership from the 2022 BUMN Awards, The Best CEO on Turnaround at the 2020 BUMN Awards, The Best CEO in Strategic Alliance at the 2018 BUMN Awards, The Best CEO in Steel Category from The Iconomics in 2021, and Top CEO in Strategic Leadership from Bisnis Indonesia in 2021.

Most recently, Silmy Karim, an alumnus of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Trisakti and Chairman of the Trisakti Alumni Association since 2022, was appointed by President Prabowo Subianto as the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
