Born in Surakarta on December 11, 1959, General (Ret.) Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, S.H., M.Si., Ph.D., has held several key positions in the Indonesian National Police, including Chief of Police in Jambi and Bali, Deputy Chief of Police, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) from 2016 to 2024. He also served as Aide to President Megawati Soekarnoputri from 2001 to 2004.

A graduate of the Doctoral Program in Law at Universitas Trisakti, where he earned the highest honor of summa cum laude, Budi Gunawan now holds the position of Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs in the Kabinet Merah Putih for the 2024–2029 term. In addition, he continues to serve as Chairman of the Indonesian E-Sports Association (PB E-Sports) since 2020.
