The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Trisakti (FK Usakti), continues to make strides in its mission to become a leading medical education institution that meets international standards. Central to this vision is fostering collaborations with prestigious universities both domestically and internationally to elevate academic quality and professional excellence. A landmark initiative in this journey is FK Usakti’s strategic partnership with Akita University, Japan.

From November 20–23, 2024, FK Usakti conducted a benchmarking visit to Akita University to explore and learn from its internationally accredited medical education system. This collaboration aims to establish robust student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and community engagement projects involving faculty and students from both institutions.

The insights gained from this visit are expected to inspire and inform improvements in FK Usakti’s curriculum, teaching methodologies, and overall academic framework.

1. Occupational Medicine Professional Program:
   A two-week program for FK Usakti students at Akita University, providing exposure to Japan’s occupational health standards and practices.
2. Observation Program:
   A one-month program for Akita University students in Indonesia, including visits to hospitals and community health centers (Puskesmas) in Jakarta to observe clinical learning processes at FK Usakti.

During the visit, the FK Usakti delegation gained firsthand insights into Akita University’s curriculum and clinical clerkship programs, which are recognized as key strengths. Akita University’s approach, emphasizing evidence-based clinical skills development and clinical simulation, has been identified as a model for FK Usakti to adapt to its specific needs.

This collaboration underscores FK Usakti’s commitment to adopting innovative teaching methods aligned with global best practices while remaining relevant to Indonesia’s healthcare and educational contexts.

By leveraging this partnership, FK Usakti seeks to:

• Enhance its academic programs,
• Broaden international exposure for students and faculty, and
• Strengthen its position as a center of medical education excellence in Indonesia.
