On Friday, October 18, 2024, the Gallery in Building N, 1st Floor, will host the Lino Expression Style Introduction Workshop (PEGELINO). This activity is part of the Creative Mentoring Program (BIMKRAF), aimed at introducing the lino print art technique to participants, with the speaker being Mrs. Rohmina Hestiningtyas, S.Sn., M.Ds. In this workshop, Mrs. Rohmina Hestiningtyas, S.Sn., M.Ds., provided an introduction to the history of lino printing, a relief printing technique where parts of the lino surface are removed to create an image. She also explained the tools used, such as carving tools and paint rollers, with a focus on flora and fauna-themed images.

Lino printing is referred to as relief printing because the process involves removing certain parts of the lino surface, allowing ink to adhere only to the areas that remain. This workshop used powdered ink, similar to photocopy ink, to transfer the image onto the rubber lino surface. Unlike printers that use liquid ink, photocopiers use powdered ink, resulting in a difference in the printing method. One of the key techniques taught was that images must be created in mirror form so that the final print will appear correctly when printed.

One participant, Najmiah, shared her experience about the workshop:

“I felt happy and excited. Moreover, this activity boosted our creativity and made us more productive,” she said.

Mrs. Rohmina also gave positive feedback about the event, stating that this activity could serve as a refreshing break for the students.

“This event is very interesting because it gives the students something to do outside of studying. Hopefully, it can be a way for them to relieve stress from their many assignments, while also providing a beneficial and enjoyable activity. I’m pleased to see their enthusiasm; their work was excellent, and their ability to absorb the material was very quick,” she concluded.
