Jakarta, August 29, 2024 — A total of 73 students and 5 teachers from SMK Pariwisata Budi Agung Jakarta conducted an educational visit to the May 12, 1998 Tragedy Museum. The purpose of this visit was to introduce the younger generation to the history and impact of the tragedy, as well as to educate them on the importance of maintaining peace and tolerance in the future.
During the visit, the students were given a tour by a museum guide who provided detailed explanations about the background of the tragedy, the key events that took place on May 12, 1998, and its impact on Indonesian society. The May 12, 1998 Tragedy Museum features various photos and video documentation that depict significant moments and remind visitors of the tragedy that left a profound mark on the nation’s history.
The students appeared very enthusiastic and engaged during the question-and-answer session with the museum guide. They asked many questions about the details of the events and the preventive measures that could be taken to ensure that similar incidents do not recur. Additionally, they had the opportunity to discuss with their teachers the lessons learned from the visit.
The visit concluded with a tour of the sites where the four victims were shot, as well as viewing the May 12 tragedy monument. This activity was expected not only to enhance the students’ historical knowledge but also to build character and social awareness among the students of SMK Budi Agung Jakarta.
