On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, the Undergraduate Law Program of the Faculty of Law Universitas Trisakti held its Summer Course program once again. This year, the Summer Course was conducted virtually for the lecture materials and followed by a cultural visit to Yogyakarta.
The opening was conducted virtually by the Dean of the Faculty of Law Universitas Trisakti, Dr. Dra Siti Nurbaiti, SH, MHum. Before that, the Chair of the Organizing Committee and Head of the Undergraduate Law Program at FH Usakti, Mrs. Maya Indrasti Notoprayitno, SH, MSi, PhD, presented a report. The chairperson stated that culture and law have a strong and important relationship in the era of globalization to create an inclusive legal framework that respects cultural differences, promoting global cooperation, peace, and development. Recognizing the importance of culture and law, the Undergraduate Law Program chose to highlight this issue as the theme for the Summer Course 2024, with the hope that cultural issues within the legal framework will become an essential part of global inclusivity. The topics covered include culture in business law, humanitarian law and cultural heritage, cultural adaptation for refugees, legal culture and fundamental rights, and cultural diplomacy.
According to the chairperson, the Summer Course was first held in 2015 in collaboration with Tilburg University, the Netherlands. The second Summer Course was held in 2023 in collaboration with Youngsan University, South Korea. This year marks the third Summer Course, and the Undergraduate Law Program is proudly hosting it independently, without collaboration.
Before concluding, the chairperson explained that the 2024 Summer Course program has seen a significant increase in participation, with an 86.3% increase from the previous year. This year, there are 41 participants from Malaysia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Mozambique, and Indonesia. The instructors come from various countries, including Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia.
With this Summer Course activity, it is hoped that the name of the Faculty of Law at Trisakti University will become more recognized in the world of education, as expressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Law Universitas Trisakti in the opening remarks.
