Photography students from the Faculty of Arts and Design (FSRD) Universitas Trisakti are hosting a photography exhibition titled “Art Fusion,” running from June 10 to 22, 2024, at Gallery N – FSRD, Campus A – Universitas Trisakti, Jalan Kyai Tapa No.1 – Grogol, West Jakarta. The exhibition was opened by the Vice Dean II of FSRD (Dra. Atridia Wilastrina, M.Ds) and attended by faculty members, lecturers, and students. According to Pongky A. Purnama, Head of the Photography Program, this exhibition is mandatory for students taking the Portfolio course, even though the current Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum includes an Exhibition Management course where organizing an exhibition is the final project.
The purpose of this activity is to teach students how to organize an exhibition, collaborate with other students, and engage with stakeholders. The event also featured photographer Bambang E. Ross from Voice of Indonesia, who provided insights from a professional perspective. Ross expressed his admiration for the quality of photography education at FSRD – Universitas Trisakti, noting that the students’ work is industry-ready and will facilitate future job opportunities.
Cerwin, the event’s chairperson, explained that the event was coordinated by five students from the Portfolio course (Salwa Suci Aisyah, Jennyfer Lambertus, Nico Cheyrol, Dave Andrew, and Cerwin Wafi). The concept of Art Fusion highlights collaboration among students, combining various ideas into a unique and memorable photography exhibition. Salwa and Jennyfer mentioned challenges such as the small team size, the short preparation period, and delays in artwork submissions. Nico, responsible for the artwork, reported that seven practical courses contributed to the exhibition, showcasing around 56 printed photos, 7 photo books, 9 digital presentations, and 4 video works. A mini theater is also available for viewing the videos.
Additionally, Rector of Universitas Trisakti, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA and Vice Rector IV, Prof. Dr. drg. Tri Erri Astoeti, M.Kes., FISDPH., FISPD, accompanied by Vice Dean III of FSRD, Susy Irma Adisurya, S.Sn, M.Ds, visited the exhibition. The university officials highly appreciated the quality of the exhibited works and the collaboration between the Photography Program and the industry, including commercial projects with the music group SLANK, GADIS magazine, government institutions, and others.
