The figure commonly known as Ahok is a graduate of the Faculty of Earth and Energy Technology Universitas Trisakti, class of 1984. Ahok had a stint in the business world before eventually venturing into politics in 2004 when he became a Member of the East Belitung Regency Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) for the 2004-2009 term. His political career soared when he, together with Joko Widodo, was re-elected as the Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta in 2012. He even rose to become the Governor after Joko Widodo was inaugurated as the President of Indonesia in 2014. Ahok also served as a Commissioner of PERTAMINA from 2019 to 2023.
